The causes
"It's like a detective story: who's the culprit? I'm sure I'd make a great detective, after all my work with IBS." Maria, 37

Although IBS affects the lives of millions of people around the world, scientists are still unfortunately unable to define exactly what causes it. One hypothesis is that people who suffer from IBS have a heightened sensitivity in the digestive tract. IBS sufferers tend to react more strongly to food, stress and other factors that may interfere in the function of the intestine. Buscopan® provides relief from abdominal pain and cramps by relaxing the abdominal muscles.

Although the original cause of IBS is still unknown, there is strong evidence that the problem is made worse by two important aggravating factors: irritating foods and stress. You can find helpful information about how to deal with these factors in the section of this website named Useful Advice.
